The Poems of Sappho and Alcman

Sappho is an antique Greek poetess who is well-known for her female literary pieces. She worshiped women usually addressing her works to the beautiful ladies. Together with her poetry, Sappho's sexuality remains one of the most discussed and mysterious topics. While there is something essentially female about Sappho's lyricism, there is something essentially male about Alcman's poetry. Being a man, Alcman could hardly convey females' feelings as they were. In conclusion, Sappho and Alcman are two important poets for world literature. Creating in antique Greece, these two writers celebrated women producing sensitive and emotional works. Although both of them wrote about females, Sappho's lyricism is characterized by privacy, passion, and emotional motives unlike Alcman's.
