How does the ayurvedic definition of health differ from conventional wisdom?

Ayurveda is an ancient system of medicine that originated in India. The name Ayurveda is a combination of two Sanskrit words,  ayur meaning life and Veda meaning knowledge.  Ayurveda is therefore the knowledge of life.

Ayurveda is based on the idea that health is determined by the balance of three doshas, or elemental energies: Vata, pitta, and Kapha. When these energies are in balance, we experience good health. When they are out of balance, we experience disease.

Ayurveda recognizes that each person has a unique constitution, or Prakriti, which determines their individual balance of the doshas. Ayurveda also recognizes that our environment, lifestyle, and diet can influence our health and create imbalances in the doshas.
