Manchester City vs Leeds United Match Preview And Prediction 14/12/2021

Manchester City tipped to extend winning streak when Leeds come to town

Manchester City welcome Leeds United to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, hoping to maintain their lead at the top of the Premier League table. Pep Guardiola’s side sit one point clear of second-place Liverpool and two points ahead of third-place Chelsea. At the opposite end of the standings, Leeds find themselves fifteenth – 22 points worse off than Man City.

The Cityzens claimed a 1-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, with Raheem Sterling scoring his 100th Premier League goal. Guardiola’s men have now won each of their last six Premier League matches – and seven of their previous nine.

They also boast the best defensive record in the English top flight, having conceded just nine goals in 16 games this season. Better still, Manchester City have kept nine Premier League clean sheets this term – giving them a shutout rate of 56%. At the other end of the field, Bernardo Silva is in excellent form. The Portugal international has netted five goals in his past six league appearances.

Leeds United suffered a 3-2 loss to Chelsea on Saturday – despite taking the lead and then equalising on 83 minutes. It’s fair to say that Marcelo Bielsa’s boys gave a good account of themselves at Stamford Bridge. They racked a total of 12 shots, five of which were on target. Still, there is no hiding from the fact that Leeds have only managed to win one of their previous six Premier League games.

When you look at the bigger picture, Bielsa’s side have won just three of their 16 Premier League outings this season. If they don’t start picking up more points soon, they could find themselves involved in the relegation battle. Believe it or not, Leeds avoided defeat to Man City last term. Following a 1-1 draw at Elland Road, Bielsa’s team secured a 2-1 victory at the Etihad.

The two sides have only met on three occasions since the 2003/04 season. In that time, both teams picked up a win – while the other match ended in a draw.

Manchester City will be without Ferran Torres. Elsewhere, Joao Cancelo will miss Tuesday’s clash through suspension.

Leeds United will be without the injured quartet of Rodrigo, Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper for the trip to Manchester.

PREDICTION: Manchester City Will Score Over 1.5 Match Goals.
